Catherine Diane McDuffie Bordeaux Calhoun

September 10, 1955 - December 21, 2022

A Celebration of her life will held on Friday January 6th, 2023 at 11 am in Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden at 11am. Viewing will held from 10-11am before the service in Colonial. Burial will follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.

Catherine Diane McDuffie Bordeaux Calhoun entered this realm through Barbara Marie McDuffie and Robert Banks on September 10, 1955. As a toddler she was adopted by the late Bishop Lawrence and Essie Bordeaux who raised her as their own, in the fear and admonition of the Lord. On Wednesday, December 21st Catherine gained her wings and departed this realm.

“Cathy” as she was affectionately known grew up in New Haven attending public schools and joined Corinth Temple UFW Baptist Church under her dad’s leadership. Cathy served as a Junior Usher, President/Director of the Youth Choir and YPCL member & officer. She also served as the District Vice President and then President of the YPCL. She graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in 1974. She worked for the Perri and Longhini Sausage Companies and in her latter years managed various care homes in the greater New Haven area retiring in 2016. Cathy loved the Lord and served him tirelessly.

Growing up Cathy loved to go to Chapel Square Mall and enjoyed lunch at La Trattoria, the Italian Restaurant on the upper level with family and friends! In 1975 she married Elbert “Redd” Calhoun and to this union was born two sons, Michael L. and Jason D.. In 1984 Cathy and Redd accepted the guardianship of her niece Tinisha and nephews Wendell and Kevin McDuffie.

Until her health began to decline, Cathy joined and attended Triumphant Christian Church under the leadership of Apostle Cynthia Gee West. She loved to go out to eat with Jimmies and Athenian Diner being her top choices! She lived her life her way and blazed her own trails.

Cathy leaves a legacy including her sons, Michael (Erica) and Jason Calhoun; step sons, Elbert E. Calhoun (Cutrice) and Jeffrey Suggs; Grandchildren Jazmin Pouncey, Michael Calhoun Jr., nieces – Tinisha McDuffie and Kimberly Calhoun Outlaw (Ty); nephews – Davon “Skeetie”, Wendell, Kevin McDuffie and Lew Calhoun, Jr. Brother in law – Lew Calhoun, Sr. (Millerniece); uncle – Bishop Hester Bordeaux and a host of cousins, bonus family members and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, her sister Terrilyn McDuffie and her niece Kia; several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
