Deaconess Evelyne "Tontie" Henderson

Deaconess Evelyne “Tontie” Henderson, 70, of 44 McDonald Avenue, was called home to be with the Lord on December 18, 2021.  Evelyne was born March 14, 1951 in Reidsville, NC to the late John Brewer Sr. and the late Mattie Keesee Brewer.  Tontie, as she was also known as, graduated from Watertown High School.  She worked hard at AMF Alcort and then retired from American Electro Products, which she worked for many years.  Aside from her job, Evelyne also worked for The Salvation Army cooking and serving families.  Deaconess Evelyne Henderson served many faithful years for Zion Baptist Church as President of the Deaconess Board, an outstanding missionary, and teacher on the book “Finding Them and Keeping Them”.  She loved to dance, was an avid reader, and enjoyed cooking.  Ev also loved to travel.  She made it her business to go to the family reunion every year.  Evelyne was passionate about spending time with her family and telling stories making new wonderful memories.  She loved to laugh. Evelyne loved the Lord and always encouraged people to know Him.  She had the sweetest smile and carried herself with regal excellence and will be abundantly missed.  Evelyne leaves behind daughters Yvette Johnson(Kenneth), Tamieka Henderson, Stephanie Henderson, four grandchildren, Evelyne is survived by three sisters; Sarah Wright, Sandra Wilkes, Andrea Brewer, eight brothers; Alphonse Nicholson(Waxie), Calvin Nicholson(Mae), John Brewer Jr.(Banita), Charles Brewer, Sinclair Brewer, Mark Brewer, Cecil Brewer(Kim),  Eddie Payne.  Predeceased by brothers; Leo Nicholson, James Brewer, Richard Brewer, sisters; Leona Neal, Margaret Payne, and former husband Mr. Steve W. Henderson.  Great Uncle Adolphus Keesee, mother in-law Willa Mae Owens, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
