Doris Denise Williams Stroud, 63, of New Haven, CT transitioned into eternal rest on July 6, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.  Doris affectionately known as “Dot” was the second of seven children born to Walter and Sarah B. (Fitts) Williams on September 10, 1956 in Selma, AL.  As a very young child, her parents relocated the family to New Haven, CT. She was educated in the New Haven Public School System. After graduating from Wilbur Cross High School, Dot continued her education and worked in the health care field. She met the love of her life, Henry Stroud and after a blissful courtship, they married in June 1986.  Through this union, two beautiful daughters were born; Lakeisha and Jessica. The Strouds were an inseparable couple; wherever you saw one, you saw the other. Dot took pride in caring for others. She was employed at the Jewish Home for the Aged and as a Home Health Care Provider.

Doris enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She put a hurting on Porkchops & Gravy, fried chicken, and stuffing. She always took the time call and check in on her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Dot was witty and always had a funny comment for you.  She was a game show enthusiast and enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She loved Bingo and Saturday family “pitty-pat” card games. Dot had a very nurturing spirit and was delighted in caring for young children. She was known as “grandma” and “Momma Dot” to many. She absolutely loved and adored her one and only grandson, Mekhi.  She loved listening to her favorite gospel sounds by “The Williams Brothers” and “The Mighty Clouds of Joy.” Dot was a member of Union Temple UFWB Church, where she fellowshipped and served on the missionary board until her health posed limitations.

Dot leaves to cherish her memories, loving husband of 34 years, Henry Stroud, two daughters; Lakeisha Nicole Williams, Jessica Denise Stroud; and one grandson, Mekhi Jones; loving sisters, Alberta (Leon) Gibbs; Carol (Norris) Jones; Angela (Wendell) Thigpen all of CT; Portia (Joe) Huguley of Atlanta, GA; uncle, Elijah “Willie” Fitts; of Beloit, AL; special aunt, Barbara Jean Townsend; sister in-law, Amy Withers; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Sarah B. Williams; two brothers, Walter Jr., George Williams; one sister Juanita “Bunny” Williams; and great-nephew Charles “CJ” Williams Jr.  Doris will be missed immensely, but never forgotten.
