Frizell McCollum Williams, Sr., 90, of Stonefield Drive, Waterbury, CT, passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side.  He was the husband of Mary “Toots” (Carney) Williams and the former husband of the late Charlotte Jeanette (Wynkoop) Williams.

Frizell was born on December 3, 1930 in Richlands, North Carolina.  He was one of seven children born to the union of the late Melvina (Berry) Williams and George Vance Williams and attended local schools in Richlands, North Carolina, Onslow County.

Frizell moved to Waterbury, CT from Richlands, North Carolina at the age of 19.  He had a long and healthy employment history, amongst them were Uniroyal, YWCA and Grace Baptist Church, where he retired at the age of 85.  He also owned and operated the Frizell Williams Cleaning Service.

During Frizell’s lifetime, he enjoyed being a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church where he was treasurer and a member of the Senior Choir.  He loved spending time at the church, having bible study with his wife and daughters into the wee hours of the morning, and spending time with all his grandchildren.  He was the best person to go to for advice and was always ready to impart some wisdom on his family, especially his grandsons.  Frizell was an avid reader, especially of the Bible.  Throughout his life he was an awesome provider and a hard worker.  He also enjoyed gardening, was a sports fan, and had an ear for various genres of music.  Frizell was a kind and gentle soul, never found without a beautiful smile on his face!

Besides his wife Mary, whom he affectionately called “Toots”, he also leaves nine children, Sheila Graham, Gisele (Frank) Spruill, Shawn (Nicolau) Moreno, Melvina McLaren, Lucinda (Lloyd) Byrd, Frizell Williams, Jr., Charlotte Williams, Christopher Williams and Tonisha Williams, and a stepson, John Jannaccio, all of Waterbury.  He also leaves his sisters, Ann (Charles) MacDonald, Evelyn Lawson (the late Deacon John Lawson), and a brother, Vance Williams.  He was predeceased in death by his beautiful daughter, Michele Williams Roldan; his sister, Verna Williams Murrell Cunningham, and two brothers, Haywood and Artice Williams.  He leaves 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren.  Frizell’s rich legacy as patriarch of his family also gave him the boast of having reached 5 generations three times!   He also leaves his nephew, William Murrell of Richlands, North Carolina, who was close to his heart.
