Janie Lee Ratliff-McCotter, 67, of New Haven, CT, departed this life on January 4, 2023 peacefully at her home after a short illness. She was born on June 3, 1955 at Grace New Haven Community Hospital in New Haven, CT to the late Leroy and Lenolia Ratliff of Chesterfield, SC. She was educated in the New Haven public school system. She had an extensive work history starting from the age of 13, which included tutoring, waitressing at Friendly’s, straightening gun barrels at U. S Repeating Arms, and dedicated 20+ years as a Direct Care Support Professional at Sarah Tuxis Residential where she provided extraordinary care for the mentally disabled. She started studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses with high hopes of meeting her parents in the resurrection. Janie faithfully studied the Bible for over 40 years while raising her children and grandchildren to have strong faith in Jehovah. She made it a point to instill faith and love in everyone who crossed her path.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her daughters Tanika McCotter and Yalonda McCotter and her sons Willie McCotter Jr. and Jayeron McCotter, grandchildren Aaron McCotter, Jalanni White, Cameryn McCotter, Kyla McCotter, London McCotter, and Nyla McCotter, 2 brothers James Robert Ratliff of Georgia and Verdell Ratliff (Joyce) of NC, a nephew/son Verdell Ratliff Jr. (Amanda)and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family. She was predeceased by her loving grandchildren Eboni Johnson-McCotter and Antonio McCotter.
