Mrs. Lenora C. (Whedbee) Andrade White, 92, died peacefully at Waterbury Hospital on Saturday evening, March 27, 2021.  She was born on June 26, 1928 in Waterbury, and was the youngest child of the late Annie Caroline and Cleopaus Whedbee.

Lenora received her elementary education at Russell and Maloney schools in Waterbury, and was awarded her diploma upon graduation from Wilby High School in 1946. She later studied in Hartford, CT and received her certificate as a Word Processing Specialist in 1983.

On February 1, 1947, Lenora married Armando Gomes Andrade, Sr., and they had 5 children.  Armando died on June 14, 1974, and 12 years later, on March 27, 1986, Lenora married Wallace Lorenzo White in Waterbury.  They lived happily for the next 35 years, until Lenora’s death on the date of their anniversary.

Before she retired at the age of 62 to spend the next 11 years lovingly caring for her mother, Lenora was employed in telecommunications at Southern New England Telephone Company, and at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft.  She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1955, and remained a devoted member of the Waterbury North congregation until the time of her death.

It would be difficult to fully describe the positive impact that Lenora had on the lives of so many members of her family, as well as her many friends and neighbors.  She was a loving mother and faithful guide to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a helpful advisor to the many friends who sought her wise advice and counsel.  Her positive attitude was evident in all that she did, and she will be forever cherished for the life she lived, and the love she spread to all who knew her.

In addition to her parents and her first husband Armando, Lenora was preceded in death by a baby sister Alice, and by two sons, Armando G. Andrade, who died in 1948 at the age of 5½ months, and Joseph King Andrade, who died in 1983 at the age of 19.  In addition, two grandsons, Franklyn A. Benjamin and Armando G. Weathers, as well as her two brothers, Joseph T. Whedbee, Sr. and Nathaniel Whedbee also passed away in recent years.

Left to mourn Lenora’s passing are her loving husband Wallace who has been devoted and faithful in caring for her for many years, and three of her five children, Armando G. Andrade, Jr. (wife Suzanne) of Waterbury, Lenora Caroline Whitaker (husband Earl) of New Haven, CT and Charlotte Bonita Andrade of Waterbury. She is also survived by her older sister, Anne Palmeter Whedbee Dawes, of Monroe, NC.  In addition, she leaves 7 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, one nephew and a number of nieces, cousins and other relatives.

May she rest in peace, knowing that she leaves behind those who will forever love, respect and cherish her memory.
