Lessie Roberson

A celebration of Lessie’s life will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church. Viewing from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery. Ms. Lessie M. “Mae” Roberson, 99 of 44 Center Street, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Abbott Terrace Rehabilitation Center.

Ms. Roberson was born on March 17, 1922 in Pittsylvania County, VA, daughter of the late Josephine (Coles) Scott. She was educated in the Danville, VA Public School System and was previously employed at several factories in the Greater Waterbury area; retiring from Winchester Electronics in the early 1990’s.

She was a longtime and very active member of Zion Baptist Church, serving as a former Usher and was on the Pastor’s Aide Committee and enjoyed many church outings and activities. Lessie was a woman of great faith and spirituality. As the longtime matriarch of her large family, she loved them unconditionally and will be greatly missed. Lessie was also known for her fashion style—always dressed to the nines!

Ms. Roberson leaves to mourn her passing, four nieces, Noreen James, Sheila Atkinson-Tyson, Stephanie James-Aviles and Gwendolyn Raines all of Waterbury; a special nephew, Edmund Atkinson of Waterbury; several great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews and two great great great nephews.

Lessie was predeceased by a sister, Georgia Gunter (Malloy); four nephews, Terry, Tiny, James and David Malloy; three nieces, Veronica “Polly” Eason, Zola Malloy and Doreen Gray and a host of friends.
