Mrs. Margaret McCrea, 85, of New Haven CT., entered into eternal peace on June 14, 2018, at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven CT, surrounded by her loving family…  She was born June 29, 1932 in Williamsburg County, to the late Benjamin and Selma Wilson. Margaret attended public school and graduated from Tomlinson High School in Williamsburg County.  Shortly after, Margaret obtained her Cosmetology license. Margaret, was employed as a seamstress for Saxon Coat Factory in Hamden, CT for many years. Margaret, as also employed at Hill Neighborhood Cooperative in New Haven, as there treasures. Margaret was a very kind and gentle soul.  Margaret had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others.  She was a loving Mother to her Entire family. Her passion was sewing and she made School uniforms for the children at Scranton School in New Haven, CT. She sewed for many family members, numerous friends and members of the Hill Community, designing Wedding and Prom Gowns, as well as a plethora of all kind of crafts. Margaret, was a lifelong member of Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church in New Haven, CT.  She was a woman of faith and spirituality. Margaret worked tirelessly to be a Christian example. Margaret had a real zest for life. She loved her old school music and would get up and shake a leg at times during family gatherings.

She leaves to cherish her Loving memory, Nine Daughters, Rosa McCrea of New Haven CT; Delores Byrd of East Haven CT; Connie (Brandon) White, Margaret (Harold) Hasell, Cheryel (Clentis) Sead all of West Haven CT; Ivia McCrea of Maryland; Gwen McCrea, Margaret McCrea III all of New Haven CT; Shirley Kelly Sweet of VA. Two Sons John McCrea Jr. and James McCrea both of New Haven CT; Forty-One Grandchildren and Seventy-Five Great-Grand Children. She will truly be missed by her adopted Children; Gerald Gibson of North Carolina, Wilton White and Robin Stewart, of New Haven CT, Two brothers, Theodore Salter’s of; Georgia, and Benjamin Wilson of Stone Mountain, Georgia. She was Preceded by Two children Vetias McCrea Newton and son, Jimmie McCrea: two Grandsons, Aaron McCrea and Brian Clark Jr.; Eleven Brother’s, James Jr. and Richard Salter’s; Vernell, Willie, JT, Darby, Harold, David, Kotell and Timothy Brayboy and Bobby Burgess. Four Sisters, Lula Mae Bradley, Elizabeth W. McCrea, Blanche Burgess and Annie Brayboy. The Children would like to thank our dad, Mr. John W. McCrea Sr.  For all of his support he has given to us.

The family would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Rosa Kinsey, Ms. Dorothy, and Ms. Marie for caring for our mother. To Family Friends, Ms. Ann Boyd, Bob & Debbie Bethea. Special Nieces, Barbara & Linda. Also to Mrs. Marlene Robinson for being there for our mother, and our Cousins, Cynt Williams, Debbie and Lizz McCrea.

 A Celebration of Mrs. Margaret’s life will be held on Thursday June 21, 2018 in Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel Street, New Haven at 11am. Viewing in Church from 9-11am. Her Horse Dawn Carriage will leave to the Interment at Hamden Plains Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at
