Margaret “Babe” Young was born in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Bessie Todd-Young and Clarence Young on December 9, 1948. Babe, as she is fondly called by family and close friends, was reared in South Carolina, and attended Greenville Public Schools until she relocated to New Haven, CT and graduated from Wilbur Cross High School. After High School, Babe attended Wilfred Beauty Academy to become a beautician. She realized her desire to want to help others and eventually became a Certified Nursing Assistant C.N.A.). A few years later, Babe obtained her Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and became a school bus driver. Because of her love of children, she later obtained her license to operate a daycare and opened her own in-home daycare. In addition to providing care to the neighborhood children, Babe provided support to people in the community with obtaining benefits and securing money for businesses via writing grants. Babe was also a fantastic cook and baker. She spent many years feeding the neighborhood and found joy in baking cakes for her nephew Clarence “”Horsey” Willoughby.
Babe leaves to cherish her memory her sisters: Jeanette Willoughby of New Haven, CT, Sarah Logan, Debra Yeargin and Linda Harris of Greenville, South Carolina. Children: Willie “Moe” Young (Denise), Margaret Young and Benjamin F Young (Christine). Grandchildren: Shatara Sullivan, Isaiah Graves (Rachida), William Young, ReJae Young, Roney Young, ShaRon Young, Ronisha Young, Brittany McKnight, Bretonia Young, Braia Young, DaShaenae Young, and Tre Edwards.
