There's not a time that I don't remember Marshall being around. When I was really young I remember him and my grandmother playing softball and then bowling and he was the one, out of all her friends that I knew, who would be in our house and be around our family. He was always there. I never called him grandpa or any variation of it to his face, he was just Marshall. The older I got the funnier I thought it was to refer to him as 'my grandmother's boyfriend.' I got lots of laughs from that through the years. But if I was talking about him alone, to someone else, I always said 'my grandfather'. That's what he was to me in any way that mattered. He was always there. When my grandmother couldn't be a resource for me, she would always say, 'I'll see if Marshall can do it." And he always did. He was there to drop me off, there to pick me up, there to bring me medicine when I was sick, food when I was hungry. He was there to give me advice or just listen to me talk. I appreciate every moment he was there for me and for my family. I will be forever grateful to have a man in my life that was as solid as him. When I think of someone I can always count on, M was one at the top of the list. Someone who cared for all of us as his own. Our spades partner, our electrician, our set up man, our bucket hat champion, a founding member of the SSC. Big M, you will truly be missed by all of us. We love you. ❤️

To my companion and my friend, I miss you so much! Nothing could have prepared me to say goodbye. As hard a this is, you have given me so much to be grateful for. Thank you for being a great friend to me and my family. They all have felt your love and compassion to be a part of their lives. I had a great life with you. I will never forget all the memories we've made. You were always by my side, and I am forever with you. Forever with love, Albertha.

Marshall, grandpa, you were the most consistent man in my life. For 31 years, you have greeted me with a bright smile and warm embrace. You never showed anger in my presence even when I know you were ticked off. You've demonstrated so much unconditional love, even without a blood connection. You were always there to celebrate me and support my accomplishments. You stepped in and filled a void and had no remorse doing it. I am forever grateful for the role you played in my life. You are an amazing man. One of my favorites. This was all sudden for us, and I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that when I come to the house, you won't be there to chat with me and brighten my day even just for that moment. I will miss you so much Big M. Forever my bucket hat champ.
