Funeral services for Mr. Forbes will be directed by Mr. James R. Sanders, and will take place on Friday, January 22nd at Colonial Funerals with a public viewing beginning at 10 a.m. and a private service for family and close friends beginning at 11 a.m. COVID-19 regulations will be strictly enforced and masks will be required. Mr. Raymond R. “Pete” Forbes

(December 25, 1931-January 14, 2021)

Mr. Raymond Roosevelt Forbes, husband of Mrs. Lucy (Shannon) Forbes, entered into his eternal rest on Thursday, January 14h after a brief illness. Mr. Forbes was 89 years old.

Mr. Forbes was born on December 25, 1931 in Currituck County, NC and was the son of the late Melvin Forbes and Liddy Simmons Forbes. Known as “Pete” to his family and friends, he was raised by his grandmother, the late Ms. Harriet Forbes. Mr. Forbes attended school in North Carolina, before moving up north where he settled with his wife of 60 years, the former Ms. Lucy P. Shannon. Mr. Forbes worked at Century Brass in Waterbury, CT as a crane operator, as well as seasonally for O & G Industries, Inc. before starting his own successful landscaping business which he held for many years before retiring.

Mr. Forbes was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church, were he served, along with his wife, on the Usher Board for many years as well as a leader of the Tribe of Benjamin. Mr. Forbes was an avid outdoorsman and craftsman, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, and studying the word of God.

Mr. Forbes is survived by his loving wife, Lucy, of Waterbury, CT, his daughter, Harriet Dolby of Raleigh, NC, nephews Dexter Forbes of Washington D.C. and Archie E. Davis of Cheshire, CT, brothers-in-law Rev. Percy (Regent) Shannon of Newport News, VA., Lavoisier Shannon of Waterbury, CT, and John Shannon of Austin, TX, sisters-in-law Ola Forbes of Washington, D.C., Rosa Shannon of Elizabeth City, NC, Laura Early, Esther (Judge Maurice) Mosley, and Marion Davenport of Waterbury, CT, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, as well as a “truckload” of nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, and special friends.

Mr. Forbes was predeceased by his father, Mr. Melvin Forbes, his mother, Ms. Liddy Simmons Forbes, his brother, John Melvin Forbes, his sister, Doris L. (William A.) Davis, and his son, Quentin Shannon.
