Ronald C. Rogers peacefully departed this life on May 24, 2022 at CT Hospice in Branford, CT. He spent his final days surrounded by the family he loved so much. Ronald was born on October 4, 1939 in New Haven to the late Leonard Sr. and Gladys Forbes Rogers. He was happily married to his loving wife, Priscilla (Patton) Rogers—who he affectionately called “Pat”—for 58 years. Ron attended New Haven Public Schools and was a proud graduate of Hillhouse High School, Class of 1958. He loved sports and was a member of the football and track teams. After Hillhouse, he served his country as a soldier in the US Army and was honorably discharged. Ronald answered to many different names—“Ronnie,” “Ron,” “Pumkin,” “Butch,” “Papasan,” “Dad”, “Papa” and “Uncle Ronnie”—all of which had a special meaning to him. Each one enveloped who he was to so many. Ronnie worked at US Repeating Arms and later retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company of North Haven. For years after his official retirement, he enjoyed doing various other odd jobs. He’d be referred to as a “jack of all trades,” offering to lend a helping hand wherever he was needed. He loved to renovate and build things around the house and was very proud of his projects. Ron was a self-taught artist who enjoyed sketching and drawing, usually at the request of his grandchildren. An active member of “The Homeboys Club,” he looked forward to meeting with friends and family whenever possible. He enjoyed jazz music, watching movies on Netflix, telling the stories of his life, and as anyone who spent even a small amount of time with him could attest, he really loved to brag about Pat’s cooking. Laughter was his love language and he was a true comedian at heart. Most memorable will always be his strong love of FAMILY. In addition to his wonderful wife, Priscilla Rogers of Hamden, CT, he leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and beautiful daughters, Pamela Delerme of New Haven and Tanya Aklin of Hamden. In addition to his daughters, he had a special relationship with his sons-in-law, Asher Delerme and Jerald Aklin, who were more like sons to him and spent lots of time surrounding Ron with love and care. He deeply loved and was so proud of his grandchildren, “The Fab Five”: Felipe Delerme of Los Angeles, CA; Manu Delerme of North Haven, Amaya Delerme of Inglewood, CA ; Ahmad Aklin of Raleigh, NC and Ali Aklin of Hamden. He is also survived by his sisters: Sharyn Jones, Rosalind Rogers and Ida Carr all of New Haven, CT and his brothers: Russell Sr., Peter, Covel and Eric of New Haven, CT, and Daniel of Prospect, CT. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers; Stanley, Lawrence, Leonard, Albert and Frank Rogers along with his sisters; Mary Cox, Carolyn Rogers and Barbara Ann Rogers. Many family, friends and neighbors will miss his presence dearly.
