Rose Avakian

September 23, 1929 - May 13, 2024

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Armenian Church of Holy Ascension, 1460 Huntington Turnpike, Trumbull, CT from 4-7pm. Funeral Service on Friday morning, at Armenian Church at 11am. Burial will follow at Old Lyme Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.

Rose Avakian, who passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 13, 2024. Rose was born on September 23 of 1929, and she grew up in Bridgeport CT. She graduated from a design school in New York City and then worked for Sikorsky Aircraft at both the Bridgeport and Stratford facilities. She later retired from the US Post Office in Fairfield. She married Herbert Avakian in 1957 and together they had four children: Harry, Steven, Carol, and David. Rose had a passion for painting, ethnic & symphonic music including playing the piano. She also enjoyed travelling and as an admitted Anglophile enjoyed her visits to England as well as travelling to the Caribbean. Her foremost passion was her family, including being among, her caring for, and providing for her family beyond her husband and children. What delighted her the most was attending family gatherings and picnics especially when she was hosting. She loved Mediterranean & Armenian cuisine, and she was renowned for her grape leaves by Armenians and non-Armenians alike. Rose enjoyed the Armenian church community and attending and serving the church. She served as the church organist for many years. Rose is survived by her younger brother Henry, and her sons Harry, Steven, her daughter Carol, Carol’s boyfriend, Daniel Gardecki, and her treasured daughter-in-law Noelle who is married to Steven.
