Donald Carter

Donald Carter, was born in Warm Springs, Georgia on October 3, 1962 to the late George and Rose (Mobley) Carter.  He departed this life on Sunday, June 12, 2022.  He leaves to mourn his loving wife and best friend, Felicia Carter, with whom he was united in holy matrimony on December 15, 1984 while stationed in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia during their service in the United States Army.  Donald served with the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers for 6 years.

Affectionately, he was called “Bobo”. He was employed as a truck driver for over 35 years, most recently at New Haven Transport. He loved to fish, cook his famous ribs, feed and entertain everyone he came in contact with. He had an infectious laugh and always offered a warm embrace. He had a loving spirit that turned any stranger into a friend.

Most important than any friendship, Donald loved and valued his family. He leaves to cherish his two sons, Darnell Gudger (Detroit, Michigan), Cory Carter (Hamden, Connecticut), and one daughter, Whitney Carter (Hamden, Connecticut). His sisters, Cynthia Smith, Tina Carter-Rainey (Joe), Sandy Major (Andra), Charlene Carter (Kipp). His grandchildren, Cori, Cayden, Cayla, Tyla and grand dog, Bobo.  He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews and godchildren.

He is predeceased by a sister, Mary Jean Averyette and grandson, Cayleb Carter.

Donald touched the lives of so many, and was a special blessing to all who knew him. Words will never express how much he will be missed.

A celebration of Donald’s life will be held on Friday June 24, 2022 at 11am at Saint Matthew’s Church 400 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven. Viewing in church from 10-11am. Military Honors will follow. Mask are required in Church. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
