Ruby Lenore Whitaker, age 35, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 28 at the Waterbury, CT home of her oldest son. Ruby was born on June 6, 1987 in Waterbury and was educated in the public schools in that city, receiving her diploma from Crosby High School in 2005. She attended Post University, and was employed in the food service industry. She was a talented singer with an excellent voice, and would light up any room with her beautiful smile. She enjoyed writing poetry and regularly keeping her thoughts and experiences in her journal. One of the many memories in which her family finds comfort is that Ruby was always upbeat in her attitude, and brought joy to everyone who crossed her path. She is survived by her parents, Earl and Lenora Whitaker and her four children, Julius A. Whitaker-Guest of Waterbury, Jahnae A. Whitaker-Guest, Wesley E. McBride and Riley P. McBride, all of New Haven. In addition, she leaves to mourn her passing 8 brothers and sisters, Selina L. Hobby, Joseph W. Whitaker, Earl H. Hobby and Christine Augustine, all of New Haven, Robin E. Whitaker of Atlanta, GA, Cassandra N. Hobby of Waterbury, CT, Courtney J. Graddick of Columbia, SC, Camille Augustine of Charlotte, NC, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. In the words of her sister Selina, “My sister was named after my grandmother but her name isn’t a coincidence because my sister really is a gem.” As Ruby is laid to rest, memories of many joyous times together will always remain in their hearts.
