Delio Vasquez, 62, of New Haven, entered eternal rest on May 17, 2023. Born in New Haven, CT, on December 15, 1960, he was the son of the late Magdaleno Vasquez-Cortez and Paula Luna. Delio was raised by his grandparents Juana and Pedro Colon. Delio was always ready to learn new things, acquire new skills, and could complete the word cross puzzle, in the New York Times, in one sitting; this earned him the nickname “IBM”. Delio was a member of the Hill Basketball League in the 1970’s. He loved spending time with family and telling his children and grandchildren about their rich Puerto Rican history. Delio’s favorite sports team was the New York Yankees. He enjoyed attending the baseball games with his son Delio. He could be spotted sporting a Yankees jersey, Yankees fitted cap, blue jeans, and an infamous pair of fresh white sneakers. Delio was affectionately known as “Uncle D” to his nieces and nephews. He loved spending time with them and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He loved spending time with his grandson “DJ” and was excited to welcome his first great grandson Kamren. Delio was a light to everyone around him. He cherished his family and extended family. His spirit and legacy will live on. Delio leaves to cherish; sons, Delio Suggs, Dante Vasquez, Damian Vasquez, and Austin Aurioso; daughters Shalice Foster (Derrick) and Raven Culbreath; sisters Jennie Rivera, Mary Leon (Angel), Theresa Vasquez- Arroyo (Rey); brothers Ramon Vasquez (Brenda), Benito Luna (Shelia), Bernard Luna (Karen), Rufino Cortez, Mike Cortez, Martin Cortez, and Johnny Cortez; grand-daughters Alexis Jordan and Destiny Suggs; grand-sons Delio Suggs Jr., Jaysin Suggs, Dante Vasquez Jr., Blake Foster, Kordé Foster; great grand-daughter Riley Preston: great-grandson Kamren Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Delio was predeceased by his siblings John Vasquez, Willie Vasquez, Alice Phelmetta; parents Paula Luna, Magdaleno Vasquez-Cortez; stepfather Benito Luna Sr.; grandparents Juana and Pedro Colon.
